| Ian Somerhalder turns ‘Vampire Diaries’ set greenHe may play a smirking, hedonistic vampire with questionable morals on the CW’s Vampire Diaries, but in real life Ian Somerhalder is as sweet as he is sexy. After tweeting for months about his disgust over the lack of an appropriate response to the Gulf Coast oil disaster, begging for homes for abandoned animals, and urging his fans to be environmentally conscious, Somerhalder–who is originally from Louisiana–has announced that the Vampire Diaries cast and crew will be doing their part to help the environment on their Atlanta set when they switch from the “dirty gas” generators used in most film and television productions to brand new solar, wind, or biodiesel-fueled green generators developed by the Go Green Mobile company this year. “It takes a lot of power to run a movie set. We go through a lot of fuel,” Somerhalder explains. “It’s harmful, and we can start changing that a little bit. We can get rid of these noisy, stinky, disgusting gas generators… Greening the ‘Vampire Diaries’ set is a priority for me, which we’re going to be doing this year.” With any luck, others in the industry will follow his example. Somerhalder and the rest of the cast begin filming for the second season of Vampire Diaries later this summer in time for its return in the fall. Until then, we can all get our vampire fix with True Blood and Eclipse this summer. Source | |
